History

Over a century of expertise in fastening

For over 100 years, Dolex has been the leading specialist in clamping, embodying unique expertise based on quality, innovation and exclusively French manufacturing. The story began in 1919 with the creation of Dolmazon & Exbrayat, a company that manufactured mechanical equipment, winches and a few vices. Very quickly, the company refocused its activity around this iconic product.

In 1934, the arrival of engineer Laurent Dumas marked a turning point. The contraction of the founders’ names gave rise to the DOLEX brand. The focus on specialised production of vices (bench vices, drill vices, machine vices, etc.) became more pronounced.

The real take-off came in 1969, when Robert Dumas, the eldest son, became managing director of the company, soon joined by his brother Marcel in sales management. Dolex then became the French leader in professional vices.

Over the years, the company has continued to expand its range: double-guide vices, clamp vices, vices for machine tools, etc. In 1980, Dolex definitively established its position as market leader thanks to its total mastery of the product and its determination to remain independent.

A new chapter began in 2008 with the takeover by Vincent Perrin, who embarked on an ambitious growth strategy. The objective was to move beyond being a specialist and become the expert in fastening. This involved optimising production, expanding the product ranges and a constant drive to innovate.

The following year, Dolex acquired Outillage ROUX, adding vice grips to its product range, and also took over the business of Sambre et Meuse Outillage, a long-standing player in the industry. This move reinforced its commitment to preserving French expertise and remaining focused on its original business.

In 2011, Dolex adopted a new graphic charter and logo, and launched a Made in France clamp, registered design BXL 276. The same expansion momentum continued in 2012 with the takeover of BESSEY-SER and SOFRA SER, and the integration of production activities in Saint-Chamond, accompanied by a 2,500 m² logistics extension. The CLAMPING division thus formed (Dolex + Bessey-ser) now offers the most comprehensive range of industrial clamping tools in Europe, spread over more than 6,500 m².

In 2013, the creation of the VP Group gave structure to this dynamic, bringing together a clamping division (Dolex, Bessey-ser) and a hardware division (Bourg Industries, Mermier Saint-Étienne, Map Industries).

Development continues with significant industrial investments in 2016, aimed at strengthening production capacity. In 2019, Dolex proudly celebrates its 100th anniversary and further expands its offering with the SERAK vice and a new range of welding pliers, all still Made in France.

In 2025, Dolex continues its commitment to innovation by launching a new range of welding tables and accessories, meeting the requirements of metalworking professionals.
