Since 1889
The BESSEY Group’s headquarters are located near Stuttgart in south-western Germany. Since 1983, the Bietigheim-Bissingen site has been home to all administrative and commercial departments, as well as manufacturing, the laboratory and logistics for precision steel, covering an area of 50,000 m².
In addition to tool production, development, goods reception, storage and shipping activities are located approximately 2 km north of the main site.

History
1889 – THE ORIGINS
Max Bessey establishes a factory in Stuttgart specialising in the drawing of bright steel, thereby laying the foundations for the company.
1912 – A NEW GENERATION
The company is taken over by Karl Bessey, Max’s nephew, ensuring continuity within the family.
1926 – FIRST DEVELOPMENT
Under the leadership of engineer Eugen Mayer, the company experienced significant growth, both in terms of quality and production volume.
1936 – A MAJOR INNOVATION
Patents filed for a new malleable cast iron screw clamp, marking the beginning of clamping tool manufacturing.
1944 – FIRST INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION
Establishment of a branch in Bietigheim dedicated to the production of clamping tools.
1961 – NEW GROWTH
Expansion of the Bietigheim factory, which also becomes the production site for bright steel.
1966 – GENERATIONAL CHANGE
Management passes to the next generation with Dr Erna Fetscher and Dr Theodor Mayer taking the reins of the company.
1979 – EXPANSION OF THE RANGE
Acquisition of the Ernst Diener scissors factory, thereby enriching the BESSEY range with the renowned ERDI scissors.
1983 – PRODUCTION
RATIONALISATION Centralisation of bright steel production at the new facilities in Bietigheim, followed by the sale of the historic site in Stuttgart.
2003 – FIRST INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION
Strategic establishment in North America with the creation of the subsidiary BESSEY Tools North America, strengthening global presence.
2004 – SKILLS
ENHANCEMENT Acquisition of the GROSS STABIL clamping tools brand, integrated into the overall growth strategy.
2023 – A NEW ERA OF COMMUNICATION
Launch of BESSEY Tool’s first corporate film, symbolising a renewed ambition for international expansion.
